It's not enough, in the end. You manage to get the barrel up, finger on the trigger - and something screams in your arm, the impact shuddering through your body. The sound of the shot follows a moment later, a roaring in your ears loud enough to make your head spin. There's a spray of red in your vision, and your whole body goes light, limp, breathless.
